Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve is a 'must see'. It is a unique
area of maritime cliff with a cliff top area of maritime acid grassland and
heath, gill woodland (including some ancient woodland), scrub, neutral
grassland, and amenity grassland. The cliffs at Hastings Country Park
constitute the largest area of the High Weald ridge that meets the sea. This
sandstone and clay coastline is uniquely positioned between the alluvial
plains of Rye Bay and Pevensey Bay and the chalk of the North and South
Downs.
Rye is an ancient town situated on the
south coast of England in the county of East Sussex. It has its own
harbour and is part of the 1000 year old Cinque Ports defence association of
south east England. Nowadays, it is very much a tourist attraction,
with its own thriving market.
From the tower of the 12th century St Mary's church, one
looks down at a town which has altered little through the ages. Handsome
Georgian buildings jostle half timbered Tudor houses in the cobbled streets,
unchanged for hundreds of years. The Ypres Tower, the Landgate and Town Wall
all provide great photo opportunities. But, Rye provides the visitor with
many other pleasures too.
Apart from brilliant views,
antique shops, art galleries, book shops and potteries, there are tea shops
serving delicious home made cakes and scones with Sussex cream, splendid old
inns, some still selling locally brewed 'real ale' for the dedicated beer
drinker and a wide variety of fine restaurants to suit every taste and
pocket.
Rye Harbour Nature
Reserve is a mosaic of habitats beside the
sea with shingle, salt marsh, sand dunes, rivers, pits, grazing marsh, reed
beds and farmland. Full of wildlife for you to discover keeping bird
watchers occupied all year round. Rye harbour is also very popular with sailing
enthusiasts.
This large
amusement park is the premier outdoor entertainment facility
in Hastings. Featuring a wealth of white knuckle rides
including roller coasters and waltzers it attracts a great
many tourists during the summer months. Conveniently located
in the centre of Hastings, close to the sea, the facility
operates a pay per ride system so you can visit for as long
or as little as you wish.
The beach
trampoline complex is an extremely popular facility. It has
several large scale trampolines that can be hired by
children to play on and practice their skills. The
trampolines are rented on a short term system and there is
no need to book in advance. Adequate facility for adults to
watch.
Located at
the very heart of Hastings just a few metres from the beach,
this boating lake has for generations been a fun facility
for locals and tourists alike. The lake offers great sea
views and is now populated by interesting oversized swan
boats that you can peddle around. The facility is popular
with young children and families.
With three
hearts, blue blood, and the ability to change both its shape
and colour it's little wonder that the octopus has amazed
and terrified mankind for centuries. However it's less well
known that they are also among the ocean's most intelligent
inhabitants - capable of solving complex puzzles and tests
of memory.
Blue Reef Aquarium has an octopus that can
unscrew jam jars to get at the food inside!
